COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Defending NAIA National Champions Cumberland (Tenn.) is the favorite to win the Mid-South Conference regular season, according to the MSC Preseason Coaches' Poll released today by conference officials.
Cumberland received 47 voting points from the conference coaches, including five of the eight first-place votes. Coaches could not vote for their own teams.
The Bulldogs won the NAIA World Series in 2014 with a 3-0 win over Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) in the finals. Cumberland finished the season with a 49-20 record. The Bulldogs also claimed the Mid-South Conference Tournament title last season after finishing second in the regular season standings.
Georgetown (Ky.) is second the preseason balloting with 45 voting points and the final three first-place votes. The Tigers won the Mid-South regular season last season with a 23-3 conference record. Georgetown finished 46-11 overall in 2014 and reached the NAIA World Series.
Campbellsville (Ky.) is projected to finish third in the regular season with 34 voting points and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) is fourth in the preseason poll with 28 voting points.
St. Catharine (Ky.) is fifth in the poll with 26 voting points followed by Shawnee State (Ohio) with 20 voting points. Cumberlands (Ky.) and Pikeville (Ky.) are seventh and eighth in the poll with 16 and eight voting points respectively.
The 2015 MSC baseball season begins in January with conference play beginning in March.
