PATRIOTS FALL TO THE BULLDOGS
The Patriot women’s soccer (5-12-1, 1-6 MSC) season came to an end over the weekend in the Mid-South Conference Tournament Quarterfinals when the team lost a tough one to Cumberland University (14-2-1, 6-1 MSC) 4-0.
The result didn’t change from their first meeting earlier this season on September 27th in which the Bulldogs beat the Patriots 10-0, but this time the Patriots put up a fight the Bulldogs weren’t expecting as this time they lost 4-0.
The Bulldogs struck first just two minutes into the game when Olivia Chu found Kaitlin Phillips to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs had numerous other chances throughout the first half, but Emily Belt (Paducah, Ky.) made six of her eight saves in the opening frame. The Bulldogs’ 1-0 lead would hold until intermission.
The Bulldogs would strike first in the second half in the 50th minute when Taylor Nay found the back of the net to give her team a 2-0 lead. Nay would strike again nine minutes later in the 59th minute to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs would extend their lead to the final margin, 4-0, in the 73rd minute. Courtney Hagedorn (Highland Heights, Ky.) and Macy Higdon (Elizabethtown, Ky.) both had chances in the game, but were unable to convert.
The Patriots will now turn to the offseason for a chance to fine tune their skills on and off the field.
