The Patriot men’s basketball squad (1-5, 0-1 MSC) traveled to Frankfort, Ky. over the weekend to battle the Kentucky State Thorobreds (1-0). The Patriots got a game-high 25 points from Aishon White (Newark, N.J.), while Ben Vozzola (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Brandon Bobb Jones (Wilmington, Del.) pitched in with 16 and 15 respectively.

The Patriots led by five in the early going at 11-6 after Ben Vozzola had a breakaway layup. The Thorobreds quickly erased the deficit with a 7-0 run to take the two point lead. The Patriots battled back to within two at 23-21 after a Khalil Murphy (Willingboro, N.J.) three. The Thorobreds went on a 15-5 run to end the half and take a 42-28 lead into halftime.

The run continued for the Thorobreds in the second half. They went on a 27-10 run to open the second half and take their largest lead of the game at 31 with 11:11 remaining. The Patriots cut the lead to nineteen after an old fashioned three point play by Brandon Bobb Jones, but to no avail as the Thorobreds had all the answers en route to a 103-80 victory.

The Patriots forced the Thorobreds in 24 turnovers, but the Patriots were also turnover prone with 21 on the night. The Thorobreds got 55 points from their bench, while the Patriots only 17 from their reserves. The Patriots struggled from the field shooting 40%, while the Thorobreds shot 58% from the field.

The Patriots will return to the court this Thursday when they take on MSC foe Pikeville (Ky.) at 8 PM in the back end of the double header. The Bears are currently ranked second in the nation in the latest polls.
