     The Patriot women’s basketball team (3-7, 0-4 MSC) traveled to Lebanon, Tenn. last night to battle the Cumberland University Bulldogs (8-2, 3-0 MSC). The Patriots were once down by as many as 22, cut it to seven late in the second half, but ran out of gas down the stretch and fell 73-51.

     Brooke Gee (Ashland, Ky.) finished with 12 points and eight boards. Sasha Ruiz-Lopez (Ft. Myers, Fla) turned in a solid performance with 10 points in 15 minutes. The Bulldogs couldn’t miss all night shooting 48.4% from the field and 66.7% from long range. The Patriots on the other hand struggled, shooting 35.2% from the field and 12.5% from three.

     The Patriots were put behind the eight ball early facing an 18-5 deficit just seven minutes into the game. The Patriots were once down by as many as 18 in the opening frame, ended the half on a positive note when Heather Sandlin (Florence, Ky.) went on a personal 4-0 run. The Bulldogs took a 42-23 lead into the locker room.

     The second half was a different story for the young Patriots. After the Bulldogs scored the first bucket in the half to go up 15, the Patriots went on an 8-2 run to cut the lead to single-digits at seven. After the Patriots cut the lead to eight with 11:33 left the Bulldogs responded with an 11-0 run to push their lead back to 19. The Patriots couldn’t get the lead any smaller than seven as they fell 73-51.

     The Patriots will return to action this Saturday when they travel to Columbia, Ky. to battle the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders. The Blue Raiders are currently ranked 19th in the nation and are coming off an upset against #5 Campbellsville (Ky.).
