TRACK & FIELD IN ACTION AT IWU
The Indoor Track and Field Patriots were in action over the weekend for the second time this season at the IWU Invitational. The event was hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.
Andrew Martin (Louisville, Ky.) led the Patriot throwers with a fifth place finish out of 18 competitors in the shot put. Martin finished with a distance of 12.57 meters (41’ 5.28”), where the winner finished with a distance of 14.57 meters. He improved from his 10.96 meters that he got at Wabash the week before.
Derek Clemens (Taylorsville, Ky.) was also in action in the shot put clearing a distance of 12.24 meters (40’ 1.88”). Clemens finished two spots behind his teammate in seventh place. The only other thrower in action was Kameron Lackey (Bardstown, Ky.). Lackey finished with a distance of 11.41 meters (37’ 5.21”) in the shot put.
The sprinters were also in action for the Patriots at Indiana Wesleyan. Shaun Gordon (Radcliff, Ky.) competed in the 200 meters finishing with a time of 25.07, less than three seconds from the winning time at 22.54. Tyler Dunn (Lexington, Ky.) was also in action in the 200 meters finishing with a time of 27.04.
Gordon and Dunn were also in action in other events. Gordon finished in third place in the triple jump finishing with a distance of 12.52 meters (41” 0.91”). Gordon finished less than a meter behind the winner, who finished with a distance of 12.77 meters. Dunn on the other hand was in action in the 400 meters finishing with a time of 1:03.62. Troy Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) competed in the 400 meters finishing just ahead of his counterpart at 1:00.39.
On the women’s side, Nicole Schowalter (Dayton, Ky.) was in action in the 400 meters finishing with a time of 1:16.29. Schowalter also competed in the 800 meters finishing with a time of 2:57.45. Kelsey Hayden (Louisville, Ky.) was also in action in the 800 meters finishing with a time of 3:07.04. Hayden also competed in the one mile run finishing with a time of 6:42.67.
The lone Patriot thrower in action at IWU was Rebecca Just (Louisville, Ky.). Just was first in action in the high jump where she cleared 1.36 meters (4’ 5.54”). The winner in the high jump cleared 1.70 meters. Just was then in action in the long jump where she finished in sixth place with a distance of 4.44 meters (14’ 6.80”).
According to head coach Blake Jones, “We were much improved from where we were a week ago, but we still have a lot of work left to do to get to where we want to be.” “It can only get better from here.”
The team will make another trip to Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, January 31st in the Wildcat Invitational.
