The Patriot women’s basketball team (9-13) returned to the friendly confines of Lourdes Hall on Saturday against Oakland City University (6-13). The Patriots trailed by three at the break, but turned it around in the final 20 minutes to come away with a 76-72 win.

In the opening 20 minutes it was the Mighty Oaks who controlled the tempo. Moore opened the game with a trey, but that was the only time the Patriots would lead in the opening frame. The Mighty Oaks lead by as many as nine as they took a 37-34 lead into the locker room.

In the second half the Patriots battled back to tie the game at 48 apiece. The Patriots then showed signs of life with a 12-4 run to take their largest lead of the game with 9:51 remaining. But the Mighty Oaks responded with seven unanswered to pull within one. The final minutes was a back and forth battle as the two teams battled to a 70-70 tie with 2:17 remaining. Over the final two minutes the Patriots outscored the Mighty Oaks 6-2 to come away with a 76-72 win.

The Patriots shot 41 percent from the field and Oakland City shot 46 percent for the game. Both teams were lethal from deep, the Patriots connected on 12 in 18 attempts and the Mighty Oaks matched the Patriots with 12 in 21 attempts.

Lena Bramblett’s squad will return to Mid-South Conference play on Thursday when they host Cumberland University at 6 PM. Then on Saturday the Patriots will take on Lindsey Wilson at 2 PM at Lourdes Hall.
