The Patriot women’s basketball team (9-15, 1-8 MSC) was in action on Saturday against Lindsey Wilson College. The Blue Raiders (19-6, 7-4 MSC) entered the game ranked 19th in the latest polls and for good reason as they built a 13 point lead at halftime en route to a 74-53 win over St. Catharine.

The Patriots were smothered on offence and struggled to score against the Blue Raiders’ tenacious defense. Heather Sandlin (Florence, Ky.) was the only Patriot in double figures with 14 points. The Blue Raider defense forced the Patriots into 17 turnovers and just 37 percent from the field for the game.

Lindsey Wilson jumped on the Patriots from the get go jumping out to an eight point lead before a pair of free throws from Jenna Thornhill (McQuady, Ky.) stopped the bleeding. The bleeding was only stopped temporarily as the Blue Raiders built a 13 point advantage midway through the first half. The Blue Raiders lead by as many as 17 on their way to a 33-20 lead at halftime.

The Patriots got the lead down to 8 with 13 minutes remaining after Miranda Wilson (Corbin, Ky.) got loose for a trey. The Blue Raiders answered with an 8-2 run to push their lead back out to double figures. St. Catharine made one final push cutting the lead to seven with 5:54 left and looked as though they were going to make a late comeback, but after five turnovers over the final five minutes the comeback came up short as the Blue Raiders won by a final score of 74-53.

The Blue Raiders shot 44 percent from the field for the game and just 28 percent (6-21) from three. The Patriots shot 43 percent from the trey (7-16). The Blue Raiders dominated the glass winning the rebounding battle 50-24.
