MEN'S BASKETBALL COMES UP SHORT AGAINST LWC
Matt Taylor’s squad was back in action on short rest on Saturday when they hosted Lindsey Wilson College. The Blue Raiders (14-11, 5-7 MSC) lead by as many as 18 en route to an 84-74 win.
The Patriots (7-14, 3-8 MSC) were led by Khalil Murphy (Willingboro, N.J) who poured in 17 points to go along with seven boards. Demetrus Richardson (Wilmington, Del.) and Nick Porter (Owensboro, Ky.) were the only other Patriots in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
It was the home team who jumped out to an early 8-6 lead five minutes into the game. The Blue Raiders quickly came back with a 29-9 run to build their largest lead of the game at 35-17 with three minutes and change left in the half. The Patriots answered the Blue Raider run with a 10-2 run over the final 3:44 to cut the lead to 10 at the break.
In the final 20 minutes, the Patriots got the lead down to four after they opened the half on a 10-4 run. Lindsey Wilson answered the run with a 9-2 run to extend their lead back to 11 with 11:45 remaining. Over the final 11 minutes and change the Patriots never got any closer than six as they fell to the Blue Raiders, 84-74.
The Blue Raiders shot 50 percent (25-55) for the game, but they cooled off on the long range bomb shooting just 23 percent (3-13). The Patriots shot 40 percent (26-64) for the game, but like the Blue Raiders they were cold from three shooting 18 percent (5-27).
