COLD SHOOTING HURTS THE PATRIOTS AGAINST UC
The Patriot women’s basketball team (10-16, 1-9 MSC)
returned to Mid-South Conference action last night when they traveled to
Williamsburg, Ky. to battle the University of the Cumberlands.
Cumberlands (12-12, 5-6 MSC) forced the Patriots 21
turnovers and one of their coldest shooting nights of the season. St. Catharine
shot just 26 percent (12-45) from the field, whereas Cumberlands shot 44
percent (26-59). The Patriots (SCC) only connected on one of their 13 three
point attempts. Cumberlands on the other hand connected on half of their 3’s,
hitting 10 of their 20 attempts.
Miranda Wilson (Corbin, Ky.) was the only St. Catharine
player to score in double figures with 10 points. Kayla Wilson (Corbin, Ky.)
was the only other Patriots to come close to double figures with seven points.
The home team got off to a hot start jumping out to a 10-2
lead less than four minutes into the game. St. Catharine trailed by as many as
nine, but they responded with a 6-0 run to pull within three, 17-14, with 11:32
remaining in the half. The Patriots (SCC) stayed within single digits over the
final 11 minutes and change as they trailed 32-23 heading into the locker room.
Over the opening eight minutes and change in the second
half, Cumberlands went on a 21-5 run to extend their lead out to 25.
Cumberlands led by as many as 37 over the final 11 minutes as they cruised to a
75-42 win over St. Catharine.
St. Catharine will look to turn things around on Saturday
when they travel to Pikeville, Ky. to battle the University of Pikeville Bears.
Tip-off is set for 2 PM EST. The Bears are coming off an upset of No. 3
Campbellsville on Thursday night.
