POOL PATS IN ACTION AT MSC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Patriot swimming team was in action on Friday and Saturday at the inaugural Mid-South Conference Women’s Swimming Championship. The event was hosted by Cumberlands (Ky.) in Williamsburg, Ky.
Hannah Spaulding (Springfield, Ky.) had the best showing out of all the Patriots. Spaulding’s first competition was in the 100 yard breaststroke where she finished in fifth place out of 12 competitors. She finished the event with a time of 1:15.06, the winner in the 100 yard breaststroke finished with a time of 1:08.59. Spaulding was then in action in the 200 yard breaststroke where she finished with a time of 2:41.57, good enough for a fourth place finish out of 10 total swimmers. Spaulding then moved on to the 100 yard butterfly where she finished with a time of 1:09.34, good enough for a sixth place finish.
Jordan Loy (Russell Springs, Ky.) also had a strong showing. In her only event, Loy finished in seventh place out of 11 competitors in the 500 yard freestyle. She finished with a time of 6:05.84. She knocked off 15 seconds from her preliminary time where she finished with a time of 6:20.84. Loy’s second event came in the 200 yard freestyle where she finished with a time of 2:16.57. Loy then moved on to the 21st event where she competed in the 1650 yard freestyle. She finished the event with a time 21:06.45, good enough for a sixth place finish.
Martha Raley (Lebanon, Ky.) also had a good performance at the Mid-South Conference championships. She was in action in the 200 yard individual medley where she finished the finals with a time of 2:57.35. Her time was good enough for an eighth place finish. Raley, like Loy, also competed in the 200 yard freestyle. She didn’t fare as well as Loy, but still had a good showing finishing with a time of 2:30.69.
As a team the Patriots competed in a pair of relays. The first came in the very first event, the 200 yard freestyle relay. They finished with a time of 1:59.96, good enough for a fifth place finish. Then in the 400 yard freestyle relay the Patriots finished with a time of 4:18.80. They finished the event in fifth place.
The University of the Cumberlands took home the title in both the men and women.
