The Mid-South Conference officials announced the 2015 Mid-South Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament brackets over the weekend. The conference tournament will take place at the Frankfort Convention Center located in Frankfort, Ky.
The women’s tournament will begin on Thursday, March 5, and the first game will take place at 2 p.m. ET. The Patriot women’s basketball team will enter the tournament as the eight seed and they will take on top-seeded Campbellsville (Ky.) at 2 p.m. ET on Thursday. The winner of that game will take on the winner of Pikeville (Ky.) and Cumberland (Tenn.) in the semifinals on Saturday, March 7, at 2 p.m. ET.
The Patriot women enter the tournament with a 10-20 record overall and a 1-13 record in conference play. The Tigers on the other hand, enter the tournament ranked No. 4 in NAIA D-I with a 27-2 record overall and a 12-2 record in the Mid-South. Campbellsville swept the season series against the Patriots. The first contest came on the Tigers’ home turf on November 13, 2014, where Campbellsville won 94-62. In their second meeting on February 21st at Lourdes Hall, Campbellsville defeated St. Catharine, 83-41.
The men’s tournament will also begin on Thursday, March 5, with the first-round game. The tournament will then continue on Friday with four quarterfinal games. The game on Thursday will be a play-in game between ninth seeded Shawnee State (Ohio) and eighth seeded Cumberland (Tenn.), where the winner will take on top-seeded Pikeville (Ky.). The Patriot men’s basketball team will enter at the seven seed and like the women, will also be taking on second seeded Campbellsville on Friday at 6 p.m. ET. The winner will then draw the winner of Georgetown (Ky.) and Life (Ga.) on Saturday, March 7, in the tournament semifinals.
The men will enter the tournament with an 11-17 record overall and a 5-11 record in the Mid-South. Campbellsville will enter the tournament boosting a No. 9 ranking in the NAIA and a 25-5 record overall and a 12-4 record in conference play. The Tigers came away with two wins against the Patriots this season. Their first meeting took place at Campbellsville on November 13, 2014 where the Tigers pulled away late to win 77-69. In their second contest on February 21, at St. Catharine, the Tigers again walked away with a 65-43 victory.
The women’s tournament championship game will take place on Sunday and is slated to begin at 1 p.m. ET. The men’s tournament championship is also set take place on Sunday following the women’s at 4 p.m. ET.
