PATS SHUTOUT GEORGETOWN IN MSC OPENER

St. Catharine (18-7, 6-1 MSC) shutout visiting Georgetown College (5-10, 3-4 MSC) 6-0 Saturday behind the arm of John Werner (Anaheim, CA) and strong defense with three double plays turned. The Patriot bats had 12 base knocks on the afternoon.

Again, Patriot starter John Werner turned in another quality start, this time tossing a 4 hit, complete game shutout. The senior walked 2 and tallied 7 K's in route to his 2nd consecutive shutout.

The Bat Pats jumped on starter Tyler Arthur in the second inning, scoring 4 runs on 5 hits with Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, IN) having a 2 RBI single. The Patriots added two insurance runs in the 5th behind RBI singles by Francisco Gonzalez (San Diego, CA) and Carlos Cespedes (Santo Domingo, DR). That was all the offense needed as the Patriot defense rolled 3 double plays behind Werner's effort.

Carlos Cespedes went 3-3 with a run and RBI, reaching base all 4 times. Josh Wenning (Palmyra, IN) went 1-4 with a run, stolen base and RBI. Francisco Gonzalez added a 1-3 game with a RBI and Drew Kissel went 2-5 with 2 RBI's. Lamont Calloway (Louisville, KY) scored once and had 3 swipes.

The series continues Sunday at 12:00 with a DH at Edelen-Haydon Field.
