COLUMBIA, Ky. – St. Catharine's (Ky.) John Werner is the MSC Baseball Pitcher of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday. Werner earns his third weekly honor of the season.
Werner continued his dominance on the bump with a four-hit shutout against Georgetown (Ky.) last week to earn conference pitcher of the week honors. The Anaheim, California, senior recorded seven strikeouts in St. Catharine's series-opening 6-0 win. In the win, Werner earned his fifth complete game and his fourth shutout of the season in seven starts.
Werner -- who has allowed just four earned runs this season in 51-1/3 innings -- improves to 6-1 on the season.
Werner leads the Mid-South in ERA (0.70), opponent's batting average (.121) and strikeouts (62) and is tied for first in wins. He ranks first in the NAIA in opponent's batting average, eighth in ERA and 11th in strikeouts.
St. Catharine is 19-8 overall and is tied with Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville (Ky.) atop the Mid-South standings.
