In the first game of the doubleheader, the Bulldogs jumped on the Patriots early with a pair of runs in the first and that would be all that the Bulldogs’ starter, Megan Baldwin would need. Baldwin shutdown the Patriot bats, allowing just four hits and one walk.

Patriot starter, Krystal Cammuse (Frankfort, Ky.), allowed eight hits in 4.1 innings of work. Cammuse allowed five runs, with only four runs earned. Brittany McKee (Somerset, Ky.) came in in relief in the fifth and pitched 1.2 innings of hitless softball. Cammuse led the way at the plate for the Patriots with two hits. Kelsey Gravens (Mt. Washington, Ky.) and Kolbi Mitchell (Winchester, Ky.) also tallied a hit in the loss.

The Patriots got the best of the Bulldogs in the backend of the doubleheader. St. Catharine scored three runs in the seventh to come away with a 12-11 win. The Patriots jumped on the Bulldogs early with two in the first inning and five in the second. After giving up three in the bottom of the sixth the Patriots would have to battle back as they trailed 11-9 heading into the seventh.

The Patriots were down to their last out in the seventh, but Lynsie Clark (Morgantown, Ky.) hit a two-run homerun that would tie the game at 11 apiece. The very next batter, Shelbi Thornhill (Hardinsburg, Ky.), hit a solo homerun that would give the Patriots the run they needed to take the lead. Tiffany Wickline (Georgetown, Ky.) picked up the win allowing seven hits in six innings.
The Patriot bats exploded with 15 hits led by Gravens who tallied three hits and three runs scored. Five other Patriot hitters tallied at least two hits in the win. Clark and Mitchell each finished with a pair of RBI’s.

The Patriots will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Lindsey Wilson College for a doubleheader.
