Box Score Game 1          Box Score Game 2

The Patriots softball team (9-19, 3-9 MSC) had a tough match-up on Tuesday when they traveled to Columbia, Ky. to battle the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders. The Blue Raiders (25-6, 9-3 MSC) entered the game ranked ninth in the latest polls. The Patriots lost a tough one in the opener, 9-6, then the Blue Raiders flexed their muscles in the second winning 18-4.

The Patriots made it interesting in the first game after they scored three in the fifth and sixth innings to tie it up a six apiece. The Blue Raiders then responded with three of their own in the sixth to win the game 9-6.

The Blue Raiders starter, Jordan Hood, shutdown the Patriots through the first four innings, but the Patriot bats woke up in the fifth with three runs on three hits. The Patriots capitalized after a Blue Raider error scored Tiffany Wickline (Georgetown, Ky.). Kolbi Mitchell (Winchester, Ky.) later singled to center to score Carly Benz (Louisville, Ky.) and Kelsey Gravens (Mt. Washington, Ky.). The Patriots were poised to score more in the inning, but the Blue Raiders were able to get out of the jam.

St. Catharine would strike again in the sixth when they scored three more runs to tie the game up at 6-6. Brandi Hood (Bardstown, Ky.) got the inning started with a single. Then Benz struck again with a double to score Hood. Kelsey Gravens (Mt. Washington, Ky.) then blasted a two-run home run to tie the game up a six. The tie was short lived after the Blue Raiders scored three in the sixth to win 9-6.

Five different Patriots recorded at least two hits in the opener. Gravens and Mitchell each recorded two RBI’s in the first game. Krystal Cammuse (Frankfort, Ky.) was stuck with the loss in the opener. Cammuse (4-8) tossed six innings for the Patriots, allowing nine runs on 11 hits.

The bright spot for the Patriots came in the third inning where they scored four runs on three hits. Kelsey Gravens blasted her second home run in as many games, this time a three-run bomb to right field. The very next batter, Shelbi Thornhill (Hardinsburg, Ky.), joined in on the action with a solo shot.

Lyndsey Parden would shut the Patriots down in the remaining innings. Parden picked up the win for the Blue Raiders allowing just four runs on four hits in five innings of work. Tiffany Wickline (3-10) took the loss for the Patriots allowing nine runs (seven earned) on seven hits in two innings pitched.

The Patriots were scheduled to take on Cumberland (Tenn.) today in a doubleheader, but was canceled after rain. Holly Smith’s squad will take a short break for the Easter Holidays, but will return for a doubleheader with Campbellsville on Tuesday, April 7th, beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
