MEN'S TRACK & FIELD PLACES SEVENTH AT LWC

Results

     The Men’s Track & Field team was in action this past weekend at the Lindsey Wilson College Invitational. The event was hosted by Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in Columbia, Ky.

    Kameron Lackey (Bardstown, Ky.) led the Patriots with a fourth place finish in the discus throw, out of 25 competitors. He then finished the shot put in fifth place out of 33 competitors. Lackey finished the discus throw with a distance of 35.07 meters (115’ .71”). He finished the shot put with a distance of 11.85 meters (38’ 10.54”).

    Andrew Martin (Louisville, Ky.) also had a strong showing in both the discus throw and the shot put. Martin finished the discus throw with a distance of 29.85 meters (97’ 11.20”), good enough for a 10th place finish. He then competed in the shot put finishing with a distance of 10.21 meters (22’ 5.96”). His distance in the shot put earned him a 13th place finish. Martin also had a strong showing in the javelin throw finishing with a distance of 33.73 meters (110’ 7.96”). Martin finished the event in ninth place out of 16 throwers.

    Derek Clemens (Taylorsville, Ky.) was also in action in the discus throw. Clemens finished with a distance of 27.78 meters (91’ 1.70”). Cody Cooper (Danville, Ky.), like his counterparts also competed in the shot put. Cooper finished the shot put with a distance of 9.45 meters (31’ .05”). Cooper was also in action in the high jump, where he cleared a distance of 1.73 meters (5’ 8.11”).

    Brandon Price (Bardstown, Ky.) led the Patriot runners. Price was first in action at the 1500 meter run where he finished with a time of 4:24.59, just under two seconds away from a top-five finish. Price then moved to the 800 meter run where he finished in 10th out of 24. He finished the event with a time of 2:08.43.

    Price wasn’t the only Patriot runner in action, Cody Coffey (Danville, Ky.) and Chris Elliott (Louisville, Ky.) were both in action in the 100 meter dash. Coffey and Elliot each finished the event with similar times, Coffey 12.03 and Elliott with a 12.10. Coffey and Elliott were at it again in the 200 meter dash finishing with a 24.95 and a 25.53, respectively.

    Shaun Gordon (Vine Grove, Ky.), like Coffey and Elliot also competed in the 200 meter dash. Gordon fared a bit better than his teammates finishing with a time of 24.53. His time earned him a ninth place finish in the event. Gordon also had a strong showing in both the long jump and triple jump. In the long jump, Gordon cleared a distance of 5.64 meters (18’ 6.05”). His distance was good enough for a sixth place finish. Then in the triple jump he finished with a distance of 12.82 meters (42’ .72”), where he finished in third place. He finished less than a meter short of the winner in both events.

As a team the Patriots accumulated 25 team points over 21 events. Their 25 points was good enough for seventh place finish out of nine teams. They finished just five points short of Lane (Tenn.) in sixth.

    The team will return to action this weekend when they compete in the Centre College Invitational, host by Centre College in Danville, Ky.
