     The Patriot men’s golf team was recently in action for just the second time in the spring season when they traveled to Stone Crest Golf Course to compete in the Mid-South Conference Spring Invitational.

     The Patriots were led by Aaron Spalding (Springfield, Ky.) who finished the tournament in a tie for 11th place out of 58 total golfers. Spalding shot a 78 in the opening round and improved in the second round where he shot a 76. Spalding finished just nine shots behind the winner of the event, who posted a two day total of 145.

     Will Broady (Greensville, Ky.) also had a strong showing at Stone Crest. Broady posted a 77 in the opening round, but didn’t fare as well in the second round, where he finished with an 83. He finished in a tie for 26th place with a two day total of 160.

     Senior, Matt Bloom (Louisville, Ky.), had a solid two days at Stone Crest. Bloom finished with an 84 in the first round and improved in the second round shooting an 80. Bloom finished with a two round total of 164 where he finished in a tie for 28th.

     Gran Hayes (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) finished at Stone Crest with a two day of 167. Like his teammates, Hayes finished the tournament on a strong note. Hayes shot an 87 in the opening round, but recovered and finished with an 80 in the final round.

Cole Ballard (Bardstown, Ky.) and Michael Hardin (Bloomfield, Ky.) each finished the tournament with a two round total of 169. Michael Vuick (Taylorsville, Ky.), on the other hand, finished the first round with an 80, but didn’t do as well in the second, finishing with a 94.

     The Patriots as a team finished the tournament in seventh place out of 10 total teams. The team finished with a 327 in the opening round and finished with a 328 in the second round. Fellow Mid-South Conference member, Cumberlands (Ky.) won the event posting a total score of 609.

     Joan Rizer’s squad will now gear up for the Mid-South Conference Tournament on April 19-21 that is held at Maywood Golf Course in Bardstown, Ky.
