PATRIOTS SWEEP THE BEARS

Stand Alone in First Place

St. Catharine (26-9, 11-3 MSC) swept three road games this weekend from host University of Pikeville. The Patriots won (9-0, 6-1 and 14-2) behind quality pitching and hot bats that tallied 40 hits on the weekend. With the sweep and MSC results, the Patriots are alone in 1st place for the first time since the second MSC weekend.

SC 9 - UPike 0

John Werner (Anaheim, CA) continued his quality starts streak, tossing 8 shutout innings in route to his 8th win. Werner scattered 3 hits, walked 3 and punched out 10 Bears. Werner has tossed 35 consecutive shutout innings, which is believed to be a St. Catharine Baseball record. Austin Willis-Greene (Manhattan, NY) tossed a scoreless 9th with a K.

Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) led the way for the Patriots, going 3-5 with a run, 2 RBI's and 3 stolen bases. Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, IN) added a 1-3 game with a 2 RBI double. Josh Wenning (Palmyra, IN) went 1-2 with 2 runs, 2 RBI's and 2 stolen bases and Harold Diaz (Gurabo, PR) added a 2-4 game with a RBI and 2 swipes.

SC 6 - UPike 1

Starter Steven Borkowski (San Diego, CA) tossed a complete game to pick up his 5th win on the year. He hurled 7 innings, allowing an unearned run on 4 hits, a walk while punching out 8 Bears.

Harold Diaz led the way for the Patriots, going 3-4 with 3 doubles, a run and 4 RBI's. Cody Kollenberg (PeeWee Valley, KY) tossed in a 2-2 game with a run and Josh Wenning went 2-2 with 2 runs.

SC 14 - UPike 2

Daniel Lerma (Oxnard, CA) tossed 6 innings, picking up his 1st win on the year. He scattered 7 hits, allowing 1 run and punching out 5. Tyler Jones (Huntington Beach, CA) tossed the final frame, allowing a run on 2 hits.

Harold Diaz led the Pats going 3-5 with 4 RBI's, a double and 2 runs. Drew Kissel went 3-5 with a homerun and 2 RBI's. Alfredo Bohorquez went 2-2 with a double and 2 runs. Josh Wenning tossed in a double and 2 RBI's and a run. Cody Kollenberg went 2-3 with 2 runs and Dominique Guevara (Oxnard, CA) went 2-2, reaching base 5 times, scoring a run and knocking in a run. Francisco Gonzalez (San Diego, CA) went 2-3 with 2 runs and Carlos Cespedes (Santo Domingo, DR) had a RBI double and scored a run.

The Patriots are scheduled to play again Wednesday at Oakland City University.
