Each team scored a run in the first inning and then from there it turned into a pitcher’s duel as the game headed into extra innings deadlocked at one apiece. The Patriots were able to score one in the eighth, then hold the Bears in the bottom half of the inning to come away with the 2-1 win.
After Wickline lined out to begin the eighth inning, Carly Benz (Louisville, Ky.) doubled to put the go ahead run at second. Benz would make her way to third on a passed ball. The very next batter Kelsey Gravens (Mt. Washington, Ky.) hit a groundout that scored Benz from third. The run proved to be enough for Wickline, who was able to hold off the Bears in the bottom of the eighth.
Tiffany Wickline (4-10) tossed a complete game allowing one earned run on five hits in eight innings of work. Wickline also recorded four strikeouts in her performance. It was a quiet day for the Patriot offense as they tallied just three hits in the game.
