The St. Catharine men’s and women’s golf was in action today at the 2015 Bardstown LEE’s Famous Recipe Mid-South Conference Championship at Bardstown Country Club at Maywood. The team completed round one of the three round tournament at Maywood.
Matt Bloom (Louisville, Ky.) led the Patriots with one under 71 after round one. Bloom currently sits in third place after the opener. Bloom trails the leader of the tournament, Callum McGuigan, by just one shot heading into round two.
Not to be outdone by his teammate, Michael Hardin (Bloomfield, Ky.) also had a strong showing at Maywood. Hardin finished the opening round with a one over 73 and currently sits in a tie for fifth place.
Aaron Spalding (Springfield, Ky.) finished the opening round in a tie for 17th. Spalding finished the first round with a 77.
Will Broady (Greenville, Ky.) also had a strong showing at the MSC Championships. Broady is currently in a tie for 25th after shooting a 79 in the opening round.
Michael Vuick (Taylorsville, Ky.) and Chaz Bowen (Louisville, Ky.) were also in action at Maywood. Vuick finished the first round with an 83. Bowen on the other hand, finished the opening round with an 89.
As a team the Patriots finished with an even 300 after the first round. St. Catharine trails second place Lindsey Wilson by just six strokes after round one. The University of the Cumberlands leads the eight team field after shooting a 289 in the opening round.
“I am really proud of the way the guys played today. The conditions were tough with the rain and wind and it was great to see them shoot the way they did,” stated Patriot golf coach Joan Rizer.
The Patriots will be back at it tomorrow for the second round beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET for a shotgun start. Live scoring for the event is available here.
