SENIORS GO OUT WINNERS WITH SWEEP ON SENIOR DAY

It wasn't pretty, but it was a sweep of visiting University of the Cumberlands (26-25, 8-12 MSC) Friday on senior day. The Patriots won the opener 6-2 then held on to win the nightcap 9-8 moving to 32-13 overall and 15-5 in the Mid-South Conference.

SC 6 - UC 2

Senior Steven Borkowski (San Diego, CA) tossed a complete game, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) in 9 innings. He scattered 8 hits and punched out 8 to move to 6-4 on the year. St. Catharine got on the board in the 3rd when Harold Diaz (Gurabo, PR) singled, stole 2nd and scored on a Dominique Guevara (Oxnard, CA) 2 out hit.

The Cumberlands answered with a run in the 5th and it stayed that way until the 7th when the Patriots tallied 4 runs. Marc Mason (Tehama, CA) singled to start the inning and Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, IN) drew a walk. Pinch runner Lamont Calloway (Louisville, KY) and Mason both scored on an errant throw on a Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) sac bunt. Diaz singled home Bohorquez for the 3rd run in the inning and Diaz later scored on a Francisco Gonzalez (San Diego, CA) single.

Harold Diaz continued to lead the Bat Pats, going 2-5 with a RBI and 2 runs scored. Dominique Guevara went 2-4 with a RBI and Alfredo Bohorquez went 1-3 with a RBI and a run. The Patriots had 10 base knocks and swiped 5 bases.

SC 9 - UC 8

The Cumberlands jumped on the Patriots in the first, scoring 3 runs -- 2 via a Stone Osborne homerun. The Patriots responded with a 3 spot of their own in the bottom half -- Alfredo Bohorquez singled and stole 2nd and Dominique Guevara reached base on a K - wild pitch. Bohorquez scored on a Francisco Gonzalez double to left and both Guevara and Gonzalez scored on a Nick Rosso (Santa Barbara, CA) single.

The Patriots would take the lead in the 4th when Cody Kollenberg (PeeWee Valley, KY) singled and Marc Mason walked to start the inning. Drew Kissel doubled both home and Lamont Calloway would score on a Harold Diaz double. The Cumberlands answered with single runs in the 5th and 6th innings, only to see the Patriots answer right back. Rosso singled in the 5th and would score on a Mason single. In the 6th, Guevara singled and scored on a sac fly by Gonzalez. Tyler Devine (Harrodsburg, KY) doubled and scored on a Rosso double.

UC would make things interesting in the top of the 7th. Reliever Nathan Getzin (Louisville, KY) gave up 3 straight hits to start the inning. James Davenport (Louisville, KY) recorded 2 outs and gave up a single, but an error allowed the inning to continue. With bases loaded and 2 outs, Austin Willis-Greene (Manhattan, NY) struck out the only hitter he faced to pick up the save.

Daniel Lerma (Oxnard, CA) started and went 6 innings. He allowed 5 runs (3 earned) on 11 hits and he earned the win. Nick Rosso led the Pats with a 3-4 game with a double, a run and 3 RBI's. Drew Kissel went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI's. Dominique Guevara went 2-3 with 2 runs. Marc Mason went 1-2 with a run and a RBI and Harold Diaz went 1-4 with a RBI double.

The Patriots will play next week in Bowling Green at the Mid-South Conference Tournament. Details will be posted soon.
