Saturday, September 19 - The SCC Patriot Soccer team played Ohio Christian University in a home match today. Ohio Christian ran into a traffic jam on the way to the game, and the start was delayed from 2:00 pm until 3:30pm. Despite the delay, both teams came out firing on all cylinders. The match was end to end, fast, and exciting. Both teams generated shots, but the score remained knotted at 0 throughout the half. In the last minute of the half, Ohio Christian took a corner kick which was cleared out by the James Porter for SCC. The ball made it through the back line of Ohio Christian and Isaac Blanford ran in to finish off a goal with 20 seconds left on the clock to make the halftime score 1-0 in favor of St. Catharine.

The second half continued the same, with the play becoming a bit more aggressive. The score ramained the same for a long period, but the breaks seemed to be turning toward OCU. James Portner for SCC was ejected for a late foul with 35 minutes to play in the game, and the Patriots would have to play the remainder of the game with only 10 players. While the Patriots maintained the lead, OCU was on the attack, trying to even the score. With 15 minutes left in the game, SCC's Austin Kaczanowski was ejected, leaving the Patriots with only 9 players on the field, a two player disadvantage.

The Patriots defended and counter attacked when possible, but the OCU attack was relentless at this point. With 12 minutes to go, SCC earned a corner kick. Rex Catron scored off the pass from Patrick Williams to put the Patriots up 2-0 and give SCC some breathing room. OCU pressed hard to narrow or even the score in the final minutes, but the Patriots were up to the task, and held them out for the 2-0 win.

The Patriots record now stands at 4-1 on the season, and they will be in action again tomorrow when they host Shawnee State at 3:00pm.
