St. Catharine, Ky. – It’s not very often that Patriot softball head coach, Holly Smith reaches to the Junior College ranks, but she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to snag her latest signee for the 2015-16 season.
Miranda Whelan, a sophomore from Motlow State Community College in Lynchburg, Tenn. decided to continue her career as a St. Catharine College Patriot.
Whelan is originally from Palmyra, Ind. and as Holly Smith indicated she recruited her out of high school, “I recruited Miranda out of high school, but she decided to go in a different direction.” “I am really excited to finally get the chance to work with her.”
Whelan was a standout for the Lady Bucks last season on the diamond. She appeared in 34 games at the plate and collected 25 hits on the year. She ranked second on the team with seven doubles on the season. Whalen also flashed some power with two homeruns and 20 RBI’s, both ranked second on the team.
She also appeared in the circle for the Lady Bucks. She started three games and pitched in 15-2/3 innings. She recorded a 2-0 record with a 1.34 earned run average.
Whelan has also been a standout for the Lady Bucks in the classroom. She was named to the honor roll (3.0 – 3.49 grade point average) last season as a sophomore for her performance in the classroom.
Miranda said at her signing that she plans on majoring in sports psychology during her time at St. Catharine.
