St. Catharine, Ky. – All the time, coaches are saying it’s never too early to begin recruiting for next year. Well that held true for head coach Holly Smith when she snagged her first commitment for the 2016-17 season.
“It’s great to be able to get a commitment from a junior that’s still in high school,” noted Smith. “It gets everything going for that recruiting class.”
Katelyn Gray, a junior at Brownstown Central High School in Brownstown, Ind. made it official when she signed her scholarship to join the Patriot softball program. Gray just wrapped up her junior year and will begin her senior year in August.
Gray is known for her flashes of power as she has blasted 33 career homeruns over her high school career thus far. She has been named to the All-Conference team as well as being named to the All-County team.
“I have been to a few of their games and I really liked the way they play the game,” said Gray. “It’s the perfect school with BIG softball.”
Gray noted that she plans on majoring in elementary education when she arrives on campus in August 2016.
