St. Catharine, Ky. – Any young aspiring coach that comes up through the ranks dreams of being a head coach at some point during their career. This is no different for Megan Dzikas as she was named the new women’s basketball coach at St. Catharine College.
Dzikas will take over for Lena Bramblett, who was head of the women’s basketball program for the last 12 years. Bramblett will make the move to the high school game and take over at Washington County High School.
“The athletic department wishes Lena the best of luck as she moves into the high school coaching ranks. She ran an excellent program here with success both on and off the court. Her 176 wins at St. Catharine puts her far and away the most winningest coach in school history. Not only is she the winningest coach, but she also led the team to an appearance in the NAIA National Tournament,” said St. Catharine athletic director Tom Bystrek.
Although Dzikas is in a new position, she isn’t new to the program. Last season she served as the assistant coach for the women’s team. While she might be new to the head coaching position, she isn’t new to the coaching circuit. Before coming to St. Catharine College in 2014, Dzikas served as the Women’s Basketball Graduate Assistant Coach at Goucher College in Towson, Maryland for two years.
"I would like to thank our Athletic Director Tom Bystrek and our president Dr. Cindy Gnadinger for this opportunity to be the new Women's Basketball Head Coach at St. Catharine College,” said Dzikas. She continued saying, “I am honored and humbled to be selected as the new coach, and I am eager to lead this program in the years ahead with the goal of cultivating an enjoyable and successful environment for our student athletes."
Prior to joining the Gophers in 2012, Dzikas had a stellar playing career at Florida Southern College from 2008-12. As a freshman at Florida Southern, Dzikas was named the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year. She helped lead the Mocs to back-to-back Sunshine State Conference Champions from 2010-12.
Dzikas graduated from Florida Southern College in April 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management. She obtained her Masters of Education from Goucher College in May 2014 with a specialization in Athletic Administration and Leadership.
“I am quite sure of Coach Dzikas’ ability to continue the success that Lena Bramblett had with the Patriot women,” said Bystrek. “She enjoyed a very good career as a player so she knows the hard work that it takes to have a successful program. She will be able to motivate these players to be the best they can be.”
