The Patriot Women's Soccer team finished up their pre-season scrimmages with a 1-1 draw versus Spalding University last night at the Barber Soccer Complex.
Despite holding a heavy advantage in shots on goal, the Patriots found themselves down 1-0 with 16 minutes left in the match after the visiting Golden Eagles capitalized off a corner kick. Undaunted, the Patriots tested Spalding's goalkeeper several more times until Bethany Massey finally put home a goal off a rebound from a previous shot. Spalding made a furious push in the last 8 minutes to try and score the game winner, but the Patriot defense held firm and the scrimmage ended in a 1-1 draw.
On Tuesday night, the Patriots travelled to Nashville for a scrimmage versus Trevecca Nazarene University. After taking an early 1-0 lead, the Patriots ended up on the wrong side of a 4-3 score. Goals by Kindsay Miller-Riney, Vannah Moreland, and Rachel Palazzo led the way for St. Catharine.
The Women's Soccer team will be in action Saturday, August 28 at 2pm for the regular season home opener at the Barber Soccer Complex against Freed-Hardeman University. That game will be followed by the Men's Soccer match versus Freed-Hardeman at 4:30 pm.
