St. Catharine, Ky. – The Patriot men’s soccer team was victorious in their home opener today against Freed Hardeman (Tenn.) winning 3-1.
Bradley Wilson (Doncaster, England) found the back of the net twice to lead the Patriots in the scoring department. Max Bristow (Exeter, England) scored the other goal to give the Patriots the 3-1 win.
The first half proved to be a defensive battle between the two. St. Catharine (1-0) recorded five shots in the opening period with two on frame. The Patriot defense allowed the Lions (1-1) to just two shots with only one on goal.
The second half was a different story when the two teams combined for four goals. Freed Hardeman took a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the second half on a goal by Brandon Rodriguez. The Patriots had an answer just 12 minutes later when Bradley Wilson found the back of the net for his first goal of the game.
Wilson was back at it two minutes later in the 64th minute when he netted his second goal of the match. This time it was on a penalty kick after a foul had occurred in the box. Wilson lined it up and fired the ball past the keeper to give his team the lead for good. St. Catharine added another goal in the 82nd minute, this time it was Max Bristow who found the back of the net for the first time this season.
Brandon Campbell (Louisville, Ky.) played all ninety minutes in goal for the Patriots allowing just the one goal. Campbell also added four saves to his stat line.
The Patriots will hit the road for the first time this Tuesday when they travel to Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. EST.
