Tuesday, October 6 - The Patriot Soccer team took on Mid South Conference rival and NAIA Number 8, University of Rio Grande in a home match today. The Patriots fought hard, and had a couple chances in the first half. Rio Grande lived up their ranking and attacked the SCC goal relentlessly. SCC was able to keep Rio out for most of the first half, but a ball crossed in to the box skipped off the wet surface and was deflected in by an SCC defender to give Rio the first goal, and the halftime lead at 1-0.
The second half was hard fought in the early going, but Rio continued to attack. 8 minutes in they struck to double the lead to 2-0. The Patriots fought, but were outmatched on this day as Rio scored 4 more times in the second half to win the game 6-0. The Patriots now hold a 6-4 record on the season and will play host to MSC opponent Pikeville College on Saturday.
