For the third time in 2 matches, the Michaela Sebastian to Libby Welch combination resulted in a goal for St. Catharine. The Women's Soccer Reserves traveled to Lindsey Wilson college yesterday to take on the Blue Raiders and came away with a draw thanks to Welch's goal.
Early in the first half, Lindsey Wilson got behind the Patriot defense and lofted a shot over Goalkeeper, Catie Wibbel's head to open the scoring. Wibbel's made three saves in the first half for the Patriots. St. Catharine made a strong push to even the game, but Michaela Sebastian's and Bryce Ashby's best efforts were thwarted when they both hit the post on clear scoring opportunities.
The Patriots finally cashed in their chance on a corner kick taken by Sebastian and knocked home by Welch to even the score at 1 apiece with 22 minutes remaining. The Blue Raiders earned two free kicks just outside the Patriot penalty box in the waning minutes. Both times Patriot goalkeeper Emily Belt came up with a big diving save to keep the score tied. Belt made 5 saves and did not allow a goal in the second half. Neither team capitalized on any additional late chances and the game ended in a draw.
The Patriots Reserves currently stand at 2-2-1 on the season and play next at Centre College on October 1.
