St. Catharine, Ky. – The Patriot volleyball team pushed their winning streak to three on Tuesday night when they swept Kentucky State University 3-0. St. Catharine (15-7) put an end to the Thorobrettes six-game winning streak as they never trailed throughout the match.
The Patriots controlled the net all night forcing the Thorobrettes (11-5) into a .011 hitting percentage. St. Catharine on the other hand turned in a .330 hitting clip with 40 kills and just 10 errors.
The Patriots were led by Rebecca Just (Louisville, Ky.) who tallied her 11th double-double on the season with 13 kills and 10 digs. Just also tabbed a .520 hitting clip for the match. Cat Hall (Louisville, Ky.) also had a strong performance with 12 kills and a .450 hitting percentage. Jessie Stone (Fredonia, Ky.) added nine kills with a .615 attacking percentage.
Senior setter, Jordan Strickland (Lexington, Ky.) continued her strong play with 29 assists. Strickland also served up three aces to lead the Patriots in serving. Emmalee Fleener (Louisville, Ky.) pitched in on defense with eight digs in the win.
St. Catharine controlled the opening set from the first serve. They jumped out to an 11-3 lead before the Thorobrettes responded with a 4-0 run to cut the lead in half. The Patriots answered with a 14-2 run of their own to close the set out 25-9.
The second set was a battle in the early going. After the Patriots held an 11-9 lead, they went on an 8-1 run forcing Kentucky State into a timeout. KSU then responded with a 6-1 run, but SCC wouldn’t be denied as they won the set 25-17.
The Patriots dominated the third set early as they sprinted out an 11-1 lead. The Thorobrettes battled back winning nine of the next 14 points to cut the lead to six at 16-10. SCC closed the set out on a 9-4 run to win the set 25-14 and the match 3-0.
The Patriot volleyball team will return to action this Thursday, October 1st, when they take on Campbellsville (Ky.) in a Mid-South Conference matchup beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
