On a sweltering day in Pittsburgh, the Patriot Women's Soccer team faced the Pioneers from Point Park University. With the temperature in the city in the high 90's, it was about 110 degrees on the turf at Highmark Stadium.
The heat was a major factor in a sluggish game from both teams. Point Park would muster up the only goal of the contest when Alyson Joyce took a shot 3 minutes after the half. Patriot 'keeper, Emily Belt was in position to make the save, but caught her shoe on the turf and was unable to leap high enough to stop the ball and it floated in.
The Patriots had several chances in the minutes immediately after conceding the goal, be were unable to hit the equalizer and dropped their third straight game to start the season by an identical 0-1 score. Emily Belt made 10 saves in the contest.
Next up for the Patriots; a home match against Cincinnati Christian on September 10.
