St. Catharine, Ky. -- The St. Catharine volleyball team was swept 3-0 Thursday by visiting Georgetown College. The first two sets were close, the third one was not in the 25-21, 25-21, 25-14 setback.
The Patriots fall to 17-8 overall and 6-5 in the Mid-South Conference. Georgetown, ranked 16th nationally, improved to 17-3 and 8-1.
The only lead in the match for St. Catharine came late in the first set when they held a 20-19 advantage. But the Tigers reeled off a 6-1 run to end that set. Set two also was close throughout but the Tigers again prevailed 25-21. The third saw Georgetown bolt to a 10-2 lead en route to the easy 25-14 win.
The final stats indicated the Tigers’ dominance as they hit at a .344 percentage to the Patriots’ .109 percentage. Mikaela Beck (Detroit, Mich.) paced the Patriots at the net with 10 kills and a .154 percentage. Jodie Klein (Louisville, Ky.) led the defensive effort with 10 digs.
Georgetown recorded six blocks while the Patriots had just three rejections.
The Patriots are back in action Saturday in a tri-match at Taylor University in Indiana. They play host Taylor and also Purdue Calumet.
