St. Catharine, Ky. -- St. Catharine head coach Megan Dzikas said it was simply a matter of her team overlooking the opponent Monday. And the result was a 57-44 loss to visiting Ohio Christian University.
“We beat them at their place and so I guess they expected the same result,” said Dzikas of her Patriot women. “And that is what happens when you don’t come to play.”
The Trailblazers (6-4) did come to play and led at every stop. The visitors took a 16-13 lead after one quarter and went to halftime with a 32-24 advantage. They widened the lead to 45-34 after three quarters. The Patriots (4-10) got no closer than seven points in the final frame.
Turnovers plagued the patriots as they had 20 miscues. That compounded with just 28 percent shooting from the field led to the defeat. Ohio Christian shot just 35 percent and committed 17 turnovers.
Cora Moore (Louisville, Ky.) was the only Patriot in double figures as the senior guard had 11 points. Patrice Tonge (Lebanon, Ky.) had seven points and a game high eight rebounds. The teams were deadlocked 38-38 in the rebounding category.Next for St. Catharine is a game Tuesday at Rio Grande (Ohio) that will mark the end of the first semester schedule
