Campbellsville, Ky. -- The Patriot wrestling team fought an uphill battle on Friday night when they took on fifth-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.). The Tigers won eight of the 10 weight classes en route to a 36-6 win over the visiting Patriots.
“Tonight was a tough night,” noted wrestling coach Spencer Adams. “We were without some of our best wrestlers and that showed. I think if we were at full strength then the match would’ve been closer.”
After falling behind 10-0 over the first two weight classes, the Patriots got on the board after the 141 weight class. At 141, Anthony Ashford (Dayton, Ky.) was able to get a 10-8 decision victory over Jaedin Sklapsky giving the Patriots three team points.
Campbellsville battled back after losing at 141 by winning the next six weight classes and putting the match out of reach at 36-3. Deaken McCoy (Galion, Ohio) made the final score 36-6 at 285 when he earned a hard fought 5-2 decision over Terrell Moore.
The “Grappling Patriots” are back in action on Wednesday, February 10th, when they host Lindenwood – Belleville (Ill.) and Lindsey Wilson beginning at 6 p.m. ET. Then on Saturday, February 13th, the Patriots host Mid-South Conference foe Cumberland (Tenn.) at 6 p.m. ET.
