St. Catharine Ky. -- After meeting a little over two weeks ago, the Patriot women’s basketball team and third-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) met again on Saturday afternoon in Lourdes Hall.
Unfortunately for the Patriots the result didn’t change from their first meeting. In their meeting on January 21st, the Patriots stayed close until the Tigers pulled away late winning 82-57. This time Campbellsville took control from the opening tip en route to the 86-46 win.
The Patriots (7-16, 1-9 MSC) didn’t help their cause by turning it over 28 times. The Tigers tuned the Patriot miscues into 28 points the other way while St. Catharine scored 12 points on 10 Tiger miscues.
Sasha Ruiz-Lopez (Ft. Myers, Fla.) was the only Patriot in double figures with 11 points in 24 minutes of action. Cora Moore (Louisville, Ky.) and Miranda Wilson (Corbin, Ky.) each finished with eight points.
In the opening stanza the Patriots held their only lead of the game when Miranda Wilson connected a triple giving the home team an 11-10 lead. The lead, however, didn’t last as Campbellsville (21-4, 8-2 MSC) took a 22-15 lead after the first period.
In the second frame, the Tigers stretched their lead out to as many as 20 en route to a 40-23 lead at the break. Campbellsville exploded in the third quarter outscoring the Patriots 28-8 before the visitors pulled away for the 86-46 win.
The Patriots will return to the hardwood on Thursday when they hit the road for a Mid-South Conference matchup against Cumberlands (Ky.). In their meeting earlier this season, the Patriots got the best of Cumberlands for a 70-58 win.
