St. Catharine, Ky. -- The St. Catharine women’s basketball team (7-20, 1-13 MSC) was in action Saturday afternoon when they hosted Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in Lourdes Hall. The Blue Raiders (22-5, 8-4 MSC) outscored the Patriots 37-20 in the second half en route to a 69-47 win.
The Patriots got strong performances from both Patrice Tonge (Lebanon, Ky.) and Breanna Ball (Huber Heights, Ohio) off the bench. Tonge finished with a team-high 14 points while Ball poured in 11 points.
The Blue Raiders built as much as a seven point edge in the opening quarter as they led 16-12 after the first ten minutes. Tonge came out firing to open the second stanza with a triple and driving left-handed layup to put her team up 17-16.
Lindsey Wilson tied it up at 22, but a pair of freebies by Ball put the Patriots back up two. Over the final three minutes of the second period, the Blue Raiders went on a 10-2 run taking a 32-27 lead to the locker room.
The run for the visitors extended into the third period when they opened the third frame 19-5 run to take a 53-38 lead into the final stanza. The Blue Raiders built their lead to as many as 24 as they went on to defeat the Patriots 69-47.
For the game, Lindsey Wilson shot 47 percent (29-62) from the field for the game, while the Patriots didn’t fare as well shooting just 34 percent (16-47) from the field. Both teams connected on four 3’s in the game.
St. Catharine is back in action on Tuesday, February 23rd, when they host Oakland City (Ind.) at 6 p.m. ET. It will also be Senior Day for the lone Patriot senior, Cora Moore (Louisville, Ky.).
