St. Catharine, Ky. -- It was an emotional day on Saturday afternoon as four Patriot men’s basketball players as they played in their final game at Lourdes Hall against Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). The Blue Raiders played spoiler by coming away with the 77-70 win.
Emory Bennett (Miami, Fla.), Brandon Bobb Jones (Wilmington, Del.), Chris Johnson (Bowling Green, Ky.) and Nick Porter (Owensboro, Ky.) all were honored before the game for Senior Day.
Johnson finished tied a game-high with 20 points to go with seven rebounds. Jones posted his 12th double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Bennett recorded 11 points, while Bryson Harris (Louisville, Ky.) added 14 points.
After the Patriots held an 11-10 lead, they went on an 8-2 run to build a seven point advantage. David Jump (Williamstown, Ky.) capped the run off when he nailed a corner trey while being fouled on the shot. Jump hit the free throw to complete the rare four point play.
Lindsey Wilson battled back to tie the game at 19-19, but Chris Johnson responded with a triple and going 1-for-2 at the line putting the Patriots up four. The rest of the half was a back and forth battle as the Blue Raiders (16-11, 6-8 MSC) took a 40-38 lead to the locker room.
Coming out of the locker room, the Blue Raiders expanded the lead to 47-40 just two minutes in, but St. Catharine responded with 17-4 run to take a 57-51 lead.
After the Patriots held a 59-53 lead, the Blue Raiders responded with a 17-2 run of their own to take a 70-61 lead with 3:42 left. The Patriots cut the lead to as little as two, but the Blue Raiders hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to seal the 77-70 win.
St. Catharine is back in action on Thursday, February 25th, when they travel to Marietta, Georgia for a Mid-South Conference matchup against Life (Ga.) in the final regular season game.
