PATRIOT BASEBALL DROPS SERIES FINALE WITH GEORGETOWN

Georgetown, Ky. -- The St. Catharine baseball team (19-8, 1-2 MSC) was back in action today when they took on Georgetown (Ky.) in the rubber match of the three-game series.

After splitting a doubleheader on Friday, the Patriots looked to win the series in on Saturday. The Tigers (15-10, 2-1 MSC), however, had other plans when they defeated the Patriots 7-0 to win the series two games to one.

The Patriot offense struggled as they collected just five hits. It wasn’t just the offense that struggled, but also the defense as they committed a season-high five errors.

Marvin Galarza (Arecibo, PR) lost his first decision of the year falling to 4-1 on the year. Galarza tossed 5.1 innings allowing four runs – two earned – on eight hits.

Austin Willis-Greene (Manhattan, N.Y.) entered the game in the sixth inning and allowed two unearned run on two hits in one inning of work. Jake McCoy (Mesa, Ariz.) tossed the final 1.2 innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits.

St. Catharine had a chance to get on the board in the third inning when they had a runner advance to second, but never made in any further after a fielder’s choice ended the threat.

The Patriots had hits in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, but never could string enough hits together to start a rally. The Tigers on the other hand had a run in the first, while they added three in the six, two in the seventh and one in the eighth en route to the 7-0 victory.

Nicco Lollio (Brownstown, Mich.) and Carlos Cespedes (Santo Domingo, DR) each had extra base hits for the Patriots with each posting a double. Josh Wenning (Palmyra, Ind.), Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) and Evan Smith (Jacksonville, Fla.) each finished with one hit.

The Patriots will now have a week to prepare for their next weekend series when they host Campbellsville (Ky.) for a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 18th, at Edelen-Haydon Field.
