St. Catharine, Ky. – The Patriot baseball team (21-9, 3-3 MSC) shutout Campbellsville (Ky.) 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at Edelen-Haydon Field to come away with the 2-1 series win.
The Patriots scored one in the first, three in the second, two in the fourth and another run in the fifth to come away with the win. St. Catharine got a quality outing from Marvin Galarza on the mound.
The Arecibo, PR native fanned four in his six innings of work, while the Tigers (15-9, 2-4 MSC) scattered just five hits on the right-hander. Galarza moves to 5-1 on the season after picking up the win.
The Patriots got on the board first with a run in the opening inning. Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) legged out double to start the rally. The next batter, Hector Quinones (Barceloneta, PR) grounded out to score Bohorquez from second who was running on the pitch.
St. Catharine was back at it the next inning with three more runs. Carlos Cespedes (Santo Domingo, DR) stepped up with the bases juiced and came through with a single that scored a pair. The third run scored on errant throw making the score 4-0 after two complete.
The 4-0 lead was more than enough for Galarza, but the Patriot offense kept it going with two more in the fourth inning. Tyler Devine (Harrodsburg, Ky.) scored one with an RBI single and Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, Ind.) drove home the other with RBI ground out to make it 6-0.
The Patriots didn’t stop there as they scored another run in the fifth inning. Hector Quinones was back at with an RBI single that scored Josh Wenning (Palmyra, Ind.) to make the final score 7-0.
The trio of Derek Jones (Mt. Washington, Ky.), Joseph Martin (Fort Thomas, Ky.) and James Davenport (Louisville, Ky.) each tossed one inning to seal the win. The three combined to allow two hits over the final three innings.
Tyler Devine led the way at the dish going 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Carlos Cespedes added 2-for-4 day with two RBI’s and Hector Quinones also drove in a pair. Drew Kissel and Alfredo Bohorquez each collected two hits, while Kissel finished with one RBI.
The Patriots are back in action this Tuesday when they travel to Owensboro, Ky. for a midweek game with Brescia (Ky.) before they return home next weekend for a three-game series with Cumberland (Tenn.).
