Bowling Green, Ky. -- The St. Catharine women’s golf team opened up the Mid-South Conference Women’s Golf Championships on Monday afternoon at Bowling Green Country Club.
Sophomore Taylor Ritchie (Winchester, Ky.) led the Patriots with a 13-over 85 in the opening round. Ritchie started on No. 10 and struggled on the back nine with a 45, but she made the turn and played the front nine at 4-over 40. Ritchie is currently tied 24th overall.
Brianna Cornett (Danville, Ky.) carded the second best score on the team with a 93. The junior played her first nine at 14-over 50, but like Ritchie ended on a positive note. Cornett finished the front nine at 7-over 43.
Junior Katie Wheatley (Bardstown, Ky.) and freshman Andrea Spalding (Springfield, Ky.) rounded out the scoring for the Patriots. Wheatley fired a 113, while Spalding carded a 115.
As a team the Patriots currently sit in seventh place after shooting a 405 in the first round. Cumberlands (Ky.) currently leads the field after shooting a 303.
