Bowling Green, Ky. -- The Patriot women’s golf team showed improvement in today’s second round of the Mid-South Conference Women’s Golf Championship at Bowling Green Country Club.
After shooting a 406 in the opening round on Monday, the Patriots came out and finished five strokes better with a 401 in the second round. Cumberlands (Ky.) continues to lead the seven-team field with a two round score of 606.
Junior, Brianna Cornett showed the most improvement in the second round. The Danville, Ky. native shot a 93 in the first round, but came out in the second round and fired an 87.
Cornett started at No. 1 and struggled through her first nine holes after shooting an 11-over 47 on the front nine. She made the turn to the back nine and showed improvement with a 4-over 40 including a birdie on the par-4 17th.
Taylor Ritchie (Winchester, Ky.) didn’t fare as well as her teammate. Ritchie shot an 85 in the first round, but struggled with a 90 in the second round. Ritchie improved on the back nine where she shot a 43.
Katie Wheatley (Bardstown, Ky.) and Andrea Spalding (Springfield, Ky.) rounded out the scoring for the Patriots. Both showed improvement in the second round as Wheatley a 110 and Spalding finished with a 114.
The third and final round of the MSC Women’s Golf Championships is slated to begin on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. ET. Live scoring is available for the event here.
