Bowling Green, Ky. -- The St. Catharine men’s golf team slipped to seventh place after today’s second round of the Mid-South Conference Men’s Golf Championship at Bowling Green Country Club.
The Patriots ended the second round in seventh place with a two-day total of 613. They are only four shots out of sixth, five out of fifth and six shots behind Pikeville (Ky.) in fourth. Cumberlands (Ky.) continues to lead the field with a total score of 569 (-7).
Michael Hardin (Bloomfield, Ky.) tied for biggest jump in the field after moving up 12 spots on Tuesday. Hardin entered the day in a tie for 37th place, but came out and fired a two-over 74.
Hardin got off to a shaky start after he bogeyed two of his first three holes, but came back with a birdie at the par-5 14. He ended the back nine with a 1-over 37. Then on the front nine, Hardin bogeyed the par-4 sixth, but pared the rest of the holes to end the front nine at 1-over 37.
Cole Ballard (Bardstown, Ky.) continues to lead the Patriots through two rounds. Ballard started at No. 10 and played the back nine at 1-over 37. He then made the turn to the front nine and fired a 2-over 38 to end his day at 3-over 75. Ballard is currently tied for 13th.
Logan Medley (Lebanon, Ky.) and Gran Hayes (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) rounded out the scoring for the Patriots. Medley struggled in the second round with an 80, but Hayes shot three shots better from his first round. He shot an 80 on Monday, but came out and fired a 77 today.
Aaron Spalding (Springfield, Ky.) and Michael Vuick (Taylorsville, Ky.) were also in action today. Spalding finished with an 80 in the second round, while Vuick showed significant improvement in the second round with a 4-over 76.
