PATRIOT SOFTBALL SEEDED FIFTH IN MSC TOURNAMENT

St. Catharine, Ky. -- The St. Catharine softball team is the fifth seed in the upcoming 2016 Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament, the conference office announced recently with the release of the tournament bracket.

The eight-team double-elimination tournament begins on Friday, April 29th at Michael O. Buchanon Park in Bowling Green, Ky. The tournament continues through Sunday, May 1st. where the champion will be crowned.

The fifth-seeded Patriot softball team will take on fourth-seeded Pikeville (Ky.) in the opening round at 12 p.m. ET. On Friday, April 29th. The other game in the top half of the bracket features top seed Campbellsville (Ky.) taking on eighth-seeded Shawnee State (Ohio).

Then in the lower half of the bracket, No. 2-seed Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) plays the No. 7-seed Cumberlands (Ky.). The final first round matchup features the three seed Georgetown (Ky.) and sixth-seeded Cumberland (Tenn.). Both games are slated to begin on 2:30 p.m. ET.

Four other games are scheduled to be played on Friday, April 29th, including a pair of elimination games. The first set of games are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. ET with the final set of games beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Four games are on tap for Saturday, April 30 at 12 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. ET. Following the four games Saturday, three teams would remain in the tournament, leaving two and possibly three games scheduled for Sunday.

The finals of the consolation bracket are slated to be played on Sunday at 12 p.m. ET with the first of the possibly two championship games to begin at 2:30 p.m. ET. A second game will be played if the winner from the consolation bracket with the first championship game.

St. Catharine and Pikeville played in a four-game series on April 9th and 10th earlier this year. The Patriots (24-28, 10-18 MSC) the Bears (18-27, 12-16 MSC) split the doubleheader on Friday, but St. Catharine swept the twinbill the next day to come away with the series victory.
