The Patriot men’s soccer team advanced in the Mid-South Conference tournament by beating Pikeville College 5-1 Tuesday at the Barber Soccer Field.
The Bears, now 1-13-1, jumped ahead 1-0 on a goal just seven minutes into the game but the Patriots, 8-10-1, scored the next five goals. A goal by Sheldon Lucas nine minutes later, off an assist from Ben Nalley, tied the score and Patrick Williams put the Patriots ahead for good with seven minutes to play in the first half when he scored off an assist from Lucas.
The Patriots coasted to the win as goals by Williams, Isaac Blanford and Nini Mohamed in the second half gave them the 5-1 win.
That victory will send St. Catharine to the MSC quarterfinals where they will play at Rio Grande, the nation’s top ranked team at noon on Saturday.
