The St. Catharine women opened the new basketball season Monday with a 75-64 win at Mid-Continent University in Mayfield. Patriot forward Danielle Brown, a senior from Hodgenville, Ky., led all scorers with 25 points. Brown also grabbed a game high 10 rebounds.
Both teams struggled to find their stride on offense as the score as St. Catharine led just 14-12 with seven minutes to play in the opening half. But the patriots found the range , scoring 25 points the remainder of the half to lead 39-23 at the break.
St. Catharine continued to increase the margin in the second half as they pulled away to a 55-26 lead. The Cougars did cut the lead to 13 points with nine minutes to play but could get no closer.
Taylor Oliver, a senior from Smyrna, Tn., came off the bench to get eight points and six rebounds. Keller Menke, a freshman from Maysville, Ky., also had eight points in just seven minutes of playing time.
Lena Bramblett will next face a huge challenge for her Patriots as they travel to Union University (TN.) to play the nation’s #1 team. That game begins Tuesday, November 2nd at 7:00 (EDT).
