The SCC Lady Patriots took on the visiting Lady Patriots of the University of the Cumberlands at the Barber Soccer Complex, Friday afternoon. The match would be a low scoring, grind-it-out affair as the lingering heat affected play.
The first half was an almost even battle as both teams pressed for goal scoring opportunities. In the 26th minute, Cumberlands scored on a shot into an open goal as SCC Goalkeeper Sigourney Lundy made a save on a previous shot, but the ball came back out into the box to a Cumberlands attacker. Twelve minutes later, SCC struck back. Monica Milesky collected long ball in the box off a free kick from Kara Morehead. After settling the ball, she powered a shot past the Cumberlands goalkeeper to knot the score at 1 apiece.
The second half was just as evenly fought as both teams work hard to earn the game winner. Both defenses held strong, however, and the final score remained 1-1. The tie brings the SCC Lady Patriots record to 3-4-1 on the season. SCC will next travel to University of the Cumberlands to play this same team next Thursday, September 27.
