The Lady Patriots game against Lindsey Wilson JV turned out to be one of epic proportions. SCC controlled the tempo and the ball and pressured the LWC goal the entire game. No matter how they tried, Lindsey’s goalkeeper seemed up to the task. She made every save that counted and got a little luck, in the form of SCC shots hitting the posts or the crossbar 8 times, to keep the Lady Patriots out of the scoring column. SCC outshot Lindsey 28 to 3 in regulation but the scored remained 0-0 after 90 minutes.
After a brief meeting with the captains, the referees signaled the start of overtime. The extro period was much the same, no matter what SCC did, they could not seem to get the much needed goal. Nine minutes into the second overtime, Amy Wurfel received a pass from Danielle Mistler on the left wing. She beat one defender and cut in toward the LWC goal. Wurfel lofted a chip up and over Lindsey’s keeper. Just as it looked like it might sail over the goal or hit the crossbar, it dipped and went in for the game winner. SCC wins 1-0 in double overtime.
