Friday, September 5 - The SCC Women's soccer team played host to the Lady Eagles from Cincinnati Christian University on Friday. The game was played in overcast, and sometimes rainy conditions. Despite the weather, both teams played solid games.
CCU had control through most of the first 15 minutes, despite a run-out that almost resulted in a goal by SCC's Ashley Thompkins. Unfortunately, a miscue in the back gave CCU a shot that lofted over SCC goalkeeper, Tabby Shirley's head to give CCU an early 1-0 lead. SCC fought back, and began to control the game. Late in the first half, SCC forward, Leah Wright found herself in the CCU penalty area with the ball and hit a strike to the back side, scoring to even the game at 1.
With the score still tied at 1, SCC came out strong in the second half and consistently held the ball in the CCU end for the first 20 minutes. A quick counterattack by CCU resulted in a shot that deflected off a defender's leg and into the goal to give CCU a 2-1 advantage. SCC looked a little deflated, but continued to fight. With SCC unable to finish off another chance, CCU tacked on another goal late to make the final CCU - 3, SCC -1.
