Friday, September 12 - The SCC Lady Patriots hosted the Eagles from Midway College today. The Patriots jumped all over the Eagles early on, with Marissa Hibbs putting a lob over the Eagle defense for Ashley Thompkins to run under and slot inside the far post for a 1-0 Patriot lead after only 51 seconds of play. Thompkins made it 2-0 ten minutes later off a similar ball from Hibbs. She completed the hat trick with her third goal just twelve minutes after that when she outran the Midway defenders to a long pass from Danielle Mistler.
With the halftime score 3-0 in favor of St. Catharine, the Lady Patriots came out looking to finish the game strong and secure the win. Just over three minutes into the second half, Marissa Hibbs earned her third assist of the game by putting another ball through the Midway Defense, this time to SCC forward Leah Wright, who finished it off for the 4-0 SCC lead. Ashley Thompkins would score her fourth goal to cap off the scoring for SCC seven minutes later on a pass from Amy Wurfel.
SCC outshot Midway 21 to 13 for the game, and SCC goalkeeper Tabby Shirley made ten saves in her first full game of the season. She almost earned a shutout, but the Eagles from Midway scored late to make the final score SCC 5, Midway 1. The Patriots stand at 2 wins and 3 losses on the season and will be in action again tomorrow afternoon at 4 pm when they host Berea College.
