Friday, September 19 - The SCC women's soccer team hosted Spalding on Friday. During the first half, the play was mostly lackluster as neither team was able to keep possession very long. SCC's Ashley Thompkins collected a ball served in by Megan Metcalf and finish off the shot to put SCC up 1-0 in the 39th minute. This would be Ashley's seventh goal in the last 3 games.
With the halftime score 1-0, SCC came out looking to add to their lead in the second stanza. SCC began to hold the ball and had several opportunities to score. Thirteen minutes into the second half, Kara Morehead passed a ball to Megan Metcalf who shot it over the head of the Spalding 'keeper and into the goal. Spalding would press the action later in the half and almost cut the lead in half when a shot rebounded off the SCC crossbar. However, the SCC defense held and the final score would be SCC 2, Spalding 0. SCC freshman goalkeeper, Tabby Shirley earned her first collegiate shutout in the game.
